Celebrating 55 Years: Seiko 5 Sports Launches Limited Edition SRPK17 & Vintage-Inspired Trio – Full Specs & Pricing
Seiko Rings in the 55th Birthday of the Seiko 5 Sports Range with Four Striking New Models
To mark the momentous 55th birthday of its renowned Seiko 5 Sports series, Seiko is expanding its contemporary Seiko 5 lineup with the introduction of four distinctive timepieces. Leading the pack is a special limited edition piece that revives the magic of the original Seiko 5 Sports watch, and it's flanked by a new trio of non-limited timepieces honoring the classic 1969 Seiko 5 Sports range.
Diving into the Limited Edition: The SRPK17
The star attraction of this celebratory release is the limited edition watch with reference SRPK17. A nostalgic creation, Seiko revisits the iconic case shape, bracelet design, and bezel of the inaugural Seiko 5 Sports from 1968. Interestingly, it differs from the contemporary Seiko 5 Sports case design that gained popularity after the series' resurgence in 2019.
The nostalgia doesn’t end there; Seiko has also rekindled the original Seiko 5 logo, which graces the dial at 12 o'clock, while the "Sports" branding is tastefully positioned at 6 o'clock. The C-shaped case is more compact than its modern counterparts, measuring 39.5mm in diameter and 12.5mm in thickness, and it boasts a vintage-inspired short lug-to-lug dimension, promising a comfortable fit on the wrist. Furthermore, the watch comes in a specially-designed box that tips its hat to the original Seiko 5 Sports packaging.
Seiko has revealed that a total of 15,555 units of the SRPK17 will be produced and it will be available for purchase at select retailers starting in July 2023. The timepiece is priced at an MSRP of $450.
The Modern Yet Classic Trio
Accompanying the limited edition SRPK17 is a stylish trio that borrows design elements from the 1969 Seiko 5 Sports series, amalgamating them with modern touches. These watches flaunt the recognizable contemporary Seiko 5 Sports case, which is 42.5mm in diameter and 13.4mm thick, with a lug-to-lug measurement of 46mm.
What sets them apart is their vintage-inspired color scheme; they feature silver, orange, or black dials, each coupled with distinctive bezels that reflect the original designs. In addition to the colors, these models come with the expected modern Seiko 5 Sports features such as a uni-directional diving bezel, a 4 o'clock crown position, 100 meters of water resistance, and are powered by the caliber 4R36 movement.
These models are non-limited and will hit the shelves in Fall 2023 with an MSRP of $350.
